New Lights, New League! Sign Up Now!

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Hey LATA members! The following is an announcement from Paul Yates, head of Team Tennis. This is going to be a really fun league! Please sign up!

LATA Team Tennis is in full swing.  But there’s one more league you can sign up for and it begins Tuesday March 27th.

It’s Tuesday Night Doubles.  The format is simple – a six-week league which features full doubles matches (no second deuce!!) and you play with the same partner for six weeks.

Eligible players include Open, A, B, and C tiers.  You can sign up with a partner or you can have one assigned.

The location:  Weddington Tennis Center (formerly Whitsett)
The time:  Tuesdays 7pm to 9pm Starts March 27th
The cost: $60 per player

If you haven’t played Weddington/Whitsett in a while, there is new lighting and courts have been resurfaced so it’s a good place to play.

If already a member, go to the Team Tennis Signup link on your LATA member dashboard on the website.   If not a member, it’s easy and fast to rejoin and sign up for Team Tennis.

Once you sign up for Tuesday Doubles, send me an email with the name of your doubles partner.  ALSO, they will need to sign up ASAP. BECAUSE … your spot in the league is only guaranteed once the fee is paid – if you pay online it, it’s virtually instant.  If you send in a mailed check, your spot is based is based on when that check is received.   There are 24 spots available – 6 teams per pool.

Deadline:  March 13th, 2012.  No refunds after that date.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

LA Open Info: Earlybird Deadline! Volunteers Needed! And A Trip To Rome Available!

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Hello LATA members!

The below message is from our tournament chairman, Steve Sax. For those of you that don’t know him, Steve works tirelessly on our tournaments, and the LA Open is a big one, it being one of the two GLTA tournaments annually hosted in Los Angeles. It’s an amazingly fun weekend with a banquet where you can meet players from all over the world, so I encourage everyone to sign up! Even Steve can’t do everything himself, though, so please, if you’re interested in helping out, get in touch with him. And get those earlybird entries in!

Hi Everyone,

The early registration deadline for the LA Open is quickly approaching and is this Saturday, February 18.  You can save $30 by registering early, so don’t delay and take advantage of this opportunity.  I’ve been lenient in the past, but will enforce the deadline this year.  All entries must be received or postmarked by Saturday. Follow the link here to enter, or copy and paste the one at the bottom of this post!

Hello everyone…

The Winter Challenge Ladder Tournament will begin on February 15th.
Please send me an email if you would like to play.
There is no additional cost to join this tournament.
For those of you who are new to LATA and/or the Challenge Ladder, the Challenge Ladder Tournament works as follows:
  • A Draw is put together for each Tier based on those who sign up.
  • You will schedule and play your first match against your opponent at a time and place that works for you both.
  • You typically have about 2 to 3 weeks to play your match.
  • Once your match is completed, you post your score as a Challenge Ladder Match at www.lataweb.com and also email me the results.
  • Winners will advance in the draw to the next round ….. and so forth.
  • There is a consolation round, so if you lose your first round match, you will move to the consolation round.
  • The tournament usually takes about 2-3 months to complete.
  • Regular scoring.
The challenge ladder tournament works just like any other tournament, with the only difference being that you schedule your match and report your scores.
Prizes are awarded as follows:
Main Draw Winner – $50
Main Draw Finalist – $25
Consolation Winner – $25
Send me an email if you would like to play. YOU MUST OPT IN TO PLAY. NO ONE IS AUTOMATICALLY ENTERED.

PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PLAY BY NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 12TH.
