Volunteers Still Needed For Holiday Party!

Saturday, December 1st, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

We’re just about set for the holiday party tomorrow, but we could use a couple more volunteers. Nothing super-demanding but it will help our preparation and cleanup to have a few more strapping bodies helping out. If you can spare an hour before, during, or after the party and would like to help out, please email Indiana Jerry here. Thanks and we look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow!

LATA Holiday Party This Sunday! Don’t Miss It!

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

Here’s another reminder that the LATA annual holiday party is this Sunday, December 2, from 4-7 PM. Weather permitting, we’ll be at least partially outdoors, but there is plenty of indoor space, so please don’t let a little rain keep you away! Here is the address:

The Village – Ed Gould Plaza
1125 N McCadden Place
Los Angeles CA 90038

Members and a guest are invited.  Also, please remember to bring a unwrapped gift for the Center — something you think the Gay and Lesbian street kids can use, like clothing, socks, and gift cards for things like food or soft goods at places like Target or Domino’s.  No cash cards please.

One last thing — if you’ve gotten the party Evite in the mail from party planner and Social Director Indiana Jerry, please respond to it so we have an approximate head count. Thanks, and looking forward to seeing all of you!

Volunteers Needed For Christmas Party!

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

Hopefully by now, you’ve got December 2nd from 4-7 marked down on your calendar for the annual LATA holiday party. It’s going to be a great event, but we do need a few volunteers to help out, since we’re supplying all our own manpower this year. The following is an announcement from our Social Director, Indiana Jerry, detailing our needs. If you can help out for an hour, it’d be much appreciated! If you’re interested, or if you have questions, email Indy at indianajerry@earthlink.net.

The LATA Holiday Party-CockTail-Dinner-Awards-Gift-Raffle is Sunday Dec 2nd, 4-7pm.   I have 18 positions for volunteers.  4 to set-up 3-4pm, 2 for check-ins, 4 for dinner helpers, 4 for wine service helpers and 4 to cleanup 7-8pm.   Setup is getting stuff out of my van, setting up tables, setting out the wine, drinks, ice, pre-setting up the dinner tables for when the catered food arrives, lighting candles, and in general helping put things up and together.  Dinner helpers will set up and keep stocked the warming trays and other food-related items.  Wine helpers will open wine bottles and check to see bottles are chilled, glasses and napkins as needed.  Cleanup is easy.  Tearing everything down, putting tables away, clearing all our stuff, blowing out candles, a little cleanup of any trash and getting supplies and leftovers back into my van.  Check-in helpers to make the name tag thing go smoothly, distribute a raffle ticket for every gift given and for any cash donations to The Center.   Some may want to volunteer for several duties, yet some may want only one.  That’s cool.   Any and all help is appreciated, members or members guests.

David Newlon Remembrance In Palm Springs — Sunday, October 21st!

Monday, October 15th, 2012

Hello LATA Members:

Many of you remember our dearly departed former board president David Newlon and were good enough to come to his memorial back in August. If you’d like to have another opportunity to bond with fellow tennis players in celebrating David’s life, there will be a doubles social followed by a catered luncheon in Palm Springs next Sunday, October 21st. The invitation is attached; there’s a number to which to RSVP should you be able to make it. It promises to be a celebration worthy of David — if you can make it, you’ll be welcome!

US Open Viewing Party This Sunday, 9/9!

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

As you probably know, the US Open is underway. There’s already been plenty of drama, but it will come to its peak the day of the men’s final, September 9th. You’re invited to watch the men’s final at the home of Luis Melo out in lovely Encino. Luis and his partner have a great game-room setup, and it’s always fun to watch a big match with other tennis-playing friends. We tried this for the French Open, but while it was a lovely party, between the time delay and the conflict with Pride, not many people could make it. This time, things should be different. 🙂 So, please check out these important notes:

IMPORTANT NOTES:

— Luis only has room for about 20-25 guests. So if you’re planning to come, you must RSVP to me (my email is newsletter@lataweb.com). I will confirm with you that there is still room. PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP WITHOUT HAVING COMMUNICATED WITH ME. Luis is opening his house; the least we can do is make things as easy as possible for him.

— Refreshments will be available, but you’re welcome to bring anything you like to share.

— The match starts live at 1 PM Pacific.
Now, here’s the attendance info:
WHERE: Luis Melo’s Game Room
              18015 Santa Rita Street
Encino, CA 91316 (If something comes up the day of the event, you can call Luis directly at 714-313-3809)
WHEN: Sunday, September 9, 12 noon until the end of the match
Again, don’t forget to RSVP if you’re coming, and please contact me directly with any questions. Looking forward to watching some great tennis with fellow league members!

LATA Social Event This Friday! Come See Eric Dodson’s Musical “A Ring In Brooklyn”!

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

It’s my pleasure to tell you about an exciting and fun LATA social event this Friday, July 27. Longtime LATA member and Hall of Famer Eric Dodson has written the book and lyrics to a musical comedy called A Ring in Brooklyn. The official opening is this Saturday, July 28, but they’re doing a special preview show on Friday that Eric is trying to fill with LATA members. The advance buzz is terrific and there’s talk of the show going to New York already! Tickets are available at the following link for a discounted price of $20 (discount code is LATA):

http://www.anmt.org/events_reservation_1.asp?eventid=201

LATA members have first crack at the tickets, but they will be opened up to the general public this week, so don’t wait to grab yours! And to start the evening off with a bang, LATA is hosting a wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres pre-show gathering at the Eclectic Café around the corner from the theatre (Lankershim and Magnolia in North Hollywood) starting 6:30pm.  So PLEASE COME.  Meet and greet old tennis friends and new with a glass of wine, laugh your ass off at a musical comedy world premiere, and support Eric, one of our own, in his new venture.  It’s a night not to miss!

French Open Viewing Party This Sunday!

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

Hello LATA Members! I sent the below in an email to the membership a few days ago. Putting this up as a reminder or for anyone who didn’t get the email for some reason. We still have spots — come out and watch some great tennis with your LATA friends! — John

Hello LATA Members!

As you probably know, the French Open is underway. There’s already been plenty of high drama, but it will come to its peak the day of the men’s final, June 10th. Coincidentally, that’s also the day of LA Pride, but before you get off to celebrating who we are, you’re invited to watch the men’s final at the home of Luis Melo out in lovely Encino. Luis and his partner have a great game-room setup, and it’s always fun to watch a big match with other tennis-playing friends.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

— Luis only has room for about 20 guests. So if you’re planning to come, you must RSVP to me.

— The match starts live at 6 AM Pacific. That is NOT when we are getting together. So if you’re coming and can’t resist checking out the result before you arrive, keep it under your hat. Please don’t ruin other people’s good time by spoiling the result, and refrain from dropping “cute” hints or predictions.

Now, here’s the attendance info:

WHERE: Luis Melo’s Game Room
18015 Santa Rita Street
Encino, CA 91316 (If something comes up the day of the event, you can call Luis directly at 714-313-3809)

WHEN: Sunday, June 10, 10 AM

Again, don’t forget to RSVP if you’re coming, and please contact me directly with any questions. My # is 212-920-1224. Looking forward to watching some great tennis with fellow league members!
