LATA Holiday Party This Sunday! Don’t Miss It!

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

Here’s another reminder that the LATA annual holiday party is this Sunday, December 2, from 4-7 PM. Weather permitting, we’ll be at least partially outdoors, but there is plenty of indoor space, so please don’t let a little rain keep you away! Here is the address:

The Village – Ed Gould Plaza
1125 N McCadden Place
Los Angeles CA 90038

Members and a guest are invited.  Also, please remember to bring a unwrapped gift for the Center — something you think the Gay and Lesbian street kids can use, like clothing, socks, and gift cards for things like food or soft goods at places like Target or Domino’s.  No cash cards please.

One last thing — if you’ve gotten the party Evite in the mail from party planner and Social Director Indiana Jerry, please respond to it so we have an approximate head count. Thanks, and looking forward to seeing all of you!

Volunteers Needed For Christmas Party!

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

Hopefully by now, you’ve got December 2nd from 4-7 marked down on your calendar for the annual LATA holiday party. It’s going to be a great event, but we do need a few volunteers to help out, since we’re supplying all our own manpower this year. The following is an announcement from our Social Director, Indiana Jerry, detailing our needs. If you can help out for an hour, it’d be much appreciated! If you’re interested, or if you have questions, email Indy at indianajerry@earthlink.net.

The LATA Holiday Party-CockTail-Dinner-Awards-Gift-Raffle is Sunday Dec 2nd, 4-7pm.   I have 18 positions for volunteers.  4 to set-up 3-4pm, 2 for check-ins, 4 for dinner helpers, 4 for wine service helpers and 4 to cleanup 7-8pm.   Setup is getting stuff out of my van, setting up tables, setting out the wine, drinks, ice, pre-setting up the dinner tables for when the catered food arrives, lighting candles, and in general helping put things up and together.  Dinner helpers will set up and keep stocked the warming trays and other food-related items.  Wine helpers will open wine bottles and check to see bottles are chilled, glasses and napkins as needed.  Cleanup is easy.  Tearing everything down, putting tables away, clearing all our stuff, blowing out candles, a little cleanup of any trash and getting supplies and leftovers back into my van.  Check-in helpers to make the name tag thing go smoothly, distribute a raffle ticket for every gift given and for any cash donations to The Center.   Some may want to volunteer for several duties, yet some may want only one.  That’s cool.   Any and all help is appreciated, members or members guests.

It’s only a month until our big annual holiday party! This year, the party will be held on Sunday, December 2, so save that date! Here are the details:

DECEMBER 02, 2012

  @ THE VILLAGE – ED GOULD PLAZA 4 PM to 7 pm

1125 N McCadden Place Los Angeles, CA 90038

It’s going to be a great time and a great chance to ring out 2012 with your LATA friends. We hope to see you all there!

Election Time! Get Your Votes In!

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

Hello LATA Members!

No, I don’t mean that election — it’s time to cast your votes for the 2013 LATA board positions!

All the great programs LATA offers throughout the year are made possible by the generosity of its all-volunteer board.   LATA will soon be electing its Board of Directors for 2013. Elections will be held on our website www.lataweb.com from November 1-15, 2012.

The current slate of very qualified candidates who have expressed their intent to run for the 2013 Board are:

* President: Steve Sax
* Team Tennis Director: Paul Yates
* Tournaments Director: Jose Sambas
* Communications Director: John Ramos
* Treasurer: Mitch Nutick
* Secretary/Volunteer Coordinator: Travis Siems
* Membership Director: Kevin Fox
* Publicity Director: Jesus Salcedo
* Ladder Director: Luis Melo
* Social Director: Brian Troung/John Johnson
* Ranking Director: Richard Podolsky

Eligibility rules and job descriptions are more fully set forth in the By-Laws, available on lataweb.com.

Hall of Famer Indiana Jerry is stepping down from Social, but will stay very involved with the club as the Historical Photo Archivist. Thank you Indiana for all of your dedicated, exemplary service to LATA!  The Social Director position is being contested. Both Brian Troung and John Johnson, log in to LATA’s website and read their individual statements on why they are running.

Please show your support for our 2013 director candidates by voting from Nov. 1-15!  The annual ballot will also include the nominees for the year-end Sportsmanship and the newly named David Newlon Outstanding Contribution Awards.

Lastly, please join all of us in thanking the amazing James Carroll.  As the president of LATA for the last couple of years, he has helped our club has started to make some changes to better service our membership and community at large in a more productive and effective way.
