Hello LATA Members!
Despite some tense moments caused by a grim Saturday forecast and a morning of rain, the club tournament came off this weekend, thanks to everyone’s patience, the accommodating staff at the Burbank Tennis Center, and the tireless efforts of our Tournament Director Steve Sax. There were seven divisions this year, A through G; the results with pictures and interviews are after the jump (with apologies that I couldn’t get to talk to everyone): (more…)
I’m very sorry to announce that Peter Cruz, an LATA member since 2009, passed away this weekend. Viewing services for Peter will be held this Friday, January 27th at 7pm, and funeral services will be held this Saturday, January 28th at 11:30am. LATA sends its deepest condolences to Peter’s family.
Both services will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church at 15444 Nordhoff St., North Hills 91343.
Further info may be found at Peter’s Facebook page.
If anyone would like to write his own remembrance of Peter, please send it to newsletter@lataweb.com and I’ll post it.

The last two Monday spots have been nabbed, so the Winter Team Tennis is completely full. Thanks to everyone who signed up! If you have any questions about league play, please email our Team Tennis Director, Paul Yates, at teamtennis@lataweb.com. See you out on the courts!
Hello LATA Members!
Paul Yates, our Team Tennis Director, gives us the following updates about league signups:
MONDAY: There are 14 people signed up, and we are shooting for 16. So if you’re interested, please grab one of those last two spots!
WEDNESDAY: We’ve hit our goal of 48 signups, so this night is CLOSED!
Again, if you’re looking to play Winter League, and why wouldn’t you, Monday night is your last chance. Please log in on the LATA website and sign up — it’s great for your game and lots of fun!
Thank you all for re-joining LATA for 2012!
We hope to make it a great year filled with lots of tennis and social opportunities. Publicity Director Jeff Sheng has already hosted our first successful social event at Gym Bar last Sunday – the Winter Team Tennis Kick-Off. Forty-five new (and old!) club members were on hand to meet and greet and watch the football playoffs. Of course the drunken beer-pong players and free beer for the tennis club didn’t hurt one bit (thank you MillerCoors!).
Hello LATA Members!
Paul Yates, our new Team Tennis Director, gives us this update on the league signups: Since the leagues start next week, he needs to start making the draws by tomorrow — Wednesday, January 18th. So if you want to play in a league for which you haven’t signed up yet, you need to get your application in TODAY — that’s today, Tuesday January 17th, by 8PM. To sign up, log in to your account, go to the member dashboard, and click on the link that says “Renew Membership/Join Winter Team Tennis.” It’s easy! (more…)
